Meet the Chef:
She makes lunch every day for 40 workers at a silk-weaving social enterprise in rural northeastern Cambodia. More to come on the Stung Treng Women’s Development Center. This day, she’s chopping root vegetables for a chicken soup so delicious that I had to eat a second lunch. All in an al fresco kitchen with the most basic possible amenities.
More from this series:
Mourning Norodom Sihanouk — Thousands of mourners gather to remember former king Norodom Sihanouk by the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh. Monks pray, students offer lotus blossoms and incense, and a Buddhist nun bestows blessings upon a small boy.
The Noodle Maker — He wears a sarong, runs a simple guesthouse in a tiny Cambodian village, grows rice, and wakes at 3am every day to make rice noodles to sell in the village market. He sends his daughter to school. And he smiles a lot.
A picture says a thousand words!
I only wish I could convey the taste of chicken soup and fresh, steaming rice!
